Point count data was collected across southern British Columbia, including Eastern Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan Valley, the Columbia Valley, and other priority Joint Venture (JV) regions. Surveys were conducted on both conserved and non-conserved areas. Conserved areas primarily consist of terrestrial or aquatic spaces secured, restored, or stewarded by partners within the Pacific Birds Habitat Joint Venture and the Canadian Intermountain Joint Venture.

All bird species detected in a typical 5-minute point count during the breeding season.
Objectifs
1) Gather bird inventory data on conservation sites; 2) understand the relationship between JV priority species and priority habitat types; 3) evaluate the effectiveness of JV’s overall conservation actions on species at the regional scale; 4) assess the effects of habitat management actions on bird species at the project scale.
Méthodologie
Méthodes de terrain
5 min distance-based point counts with unlimited radius are conducted. Detections are recorded using distance groupings of <50 m, 50-100 m, and >100m. The 5 min point count is divided into three intervals (0-3 min, 3-5min and >5min for any incidental observations after the count period). Point counts are conducted between May 15 and July 7, starting 30 mins before sunrise and ending by 10am. Suitable conditions required for point counts include temperatures >3°C, no precipitation, and light to no wind.
