Southern Yukon Wetland Birds Reconnaissance - 2003 YT
Nom du projet : WildTrax
Résumé de l’ensemble de données : Point counts were conducted as part of a larger wetland inventory project. Wetlands in southern Yukon were visited between mid-May and mid-June, 2003. The objective was to conduct inventories of birds, in significant wetlands where little information was available on species other than waterfowl. Although comprehensive inventories were conducted, the surveys focused on several target species. These included rare southern Yukon shorebirds: Short-billed Dowitcher and Wilson’s Phalarope (Yukon Red list, Hoefs 2000), and Greater Yellowlegs (Yukon Blue list); and other wetland birds of concern, including Pied-billed Grebe (Yukon Blue list) and Rusty Blackbird (Partners in Flight Watch List, PIF 2004). This project was a reconnaissance survey designed to address some of the information gaps for wetland birds in southern Yukon, particularly rare wetland birds. A diversity of survey and inventory techniques was used, and coverage of each area visited was limited by access, and therefore somewhat opportunistic. Point counts were used where time and logistics permitted, in order to get a general idea of how densities of birds compare those at other sites in southern Yukon which have been surveyed in the past. However, further surveys would be required before direct comparisons could be made. Observers: Pam Sinclair and Cameron Eckert. Canadian Wildlife Service, Environment and Climate Change Canada. Additional information recorded which is not displayed on WildTrax: For every point count: Time, temperature, wind; cloud cover For every detection: Age, sex, quadrant, behaviour/detection type, movement between intervals For further information email: Donnees-SIG_SCF_NOR-Data-GIS_CWS_NOR@ec.gc.ca "This data was standardized for the Boreal Avian Modelling (BAM) Project and then transferred to WildTrax. Data was initially standardized for the BAM Version 4 SQL database. This was converted to BAM Version 6 Microsoft Access database in 2020 by updating the table structure. Finally, this data was moved to the WildTrax PostgreSQL database between 2021 to 2022 where it is accessible through the secure WildTrax website. As of 31 March 2022, data uploaded by BAM does not include some metadata. This metadata will become available in the near future following the necessary WildTrax updates. Please contact bamp@ualberta.ca if you require this metadata."
