Sarasota Bay Watch is an action-oriented grassroots, non-profitorganization dedicated to restoring coastal ecosystems through citizenparticipation. One of our initiatives is to restore the main island within theJim Neville Marine Preserve (clean up debris, remove invasive plant species, improve the ecosystem for wildlife, improve the island for safe humaninteraction.) We are converting the vegetation on Jim Neville from invasiveforest to native plants, hoping to create a habitat that’s welcoming topollinators and all sorts of other wildlife. The bird monitoring project documents bird usage on Neville Preserve as we continueto remove invasive plants and replace them with native plants that provideimproved shelter and food sources for birds. We are hoping to evaluate theimpact of our work on bird utilization of the restored coastal and upland habitats. We are collecting data to answer the following questions:

Will converting invasive forest to native plants onJim Neville increase bird diversity?

Will converting invasive forest to native plants onJim Neville increase bird abundance?

Willconverting invasive forest to native plants on Jim Neville result in arelatively bigger increase in seed-eating bird abundance and/or diversity?
