Welcome Project Owlnet Members

This data entry portal is a tool for Project Owlnet collaborators to enter and safeguard effort data and daily summaries through the NatureCounts platform operated by Birds of Canada. This data is crucial to scale capture rates across time and operating stations, but in the past this data has been stored by individual stations, posing a high risk of data loss. Collaborators are encouraged to record effort data on a nightly basis using the NatureCounts mobile app or at the end of the banding season.

Project Owlnet is a large collaborative network of avian researchers in North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico) that strive to understand the movement ecology and population dynamics of migratory owls; primarily Northern Saw-whet Owls. Project Owlnet members are committed to identifying knowledge gaps and conservation needs of these nocturnal predators. Project Owlnet supports its network and this mission by 1) establishing standardized protocols that promote repeatability in data collection and data integration; 2) promoting long-term accessibility and integrity of valuable monitoring data; 3) fostering collaborations both within and outside of its network to analyze and publish Owlnet data; and 4) supporting extensive education and outreach programs that further conservation objectives.
