Dataset

Project OwlNet: Rushton Woods Banding Station

About

Dataset summary

This dataset is the effort data accompanying banding data from Project Owlnet collaborators. Our goal is to be able to scale capture rates by time of operation, seasonality, weather, and net area across stations, we hope to be able to make stronger inference on changes in captures over time and regions.

Season(s) and frequency

Continuous- each station operates differently. Most stations band during fall migration (September – November depending on location), others band in the spring, and others during the breeding season

Geographic area covered

North America

Primary species covered

NSWO and other migratory owls

Goals

Project Owlnet is a large collaborative network of avian researchers in North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico) that strive to understand the movement ecology and population dynamics of migratory owls; primarily Northern Saw-whet Owls. Project Owlnet members are committed to identifying knowledge gaps and conservation needs of these nocturnal predators. Project Owlnet supports its network and this mission by 1) establishing standardized protocols that promote repeatability in data collection and data integration; 2) promoting long-term accessibility and integrity of valuable monitoring data; 3) fostering collaborations both within and outside of its network to analyze and publish Owlnet data; and 4) supporting extensive education and outreach programs that further conservation objectives.
