Daily counts of birds banded, incidentally observed during standard observation and a composite Daily Estimated Total consisting of the best estimate for each species of unduplicated number of individuals detected within the official count area during the standardized operation period. Daily effort data are included for most years.
Standardized coverage five days per week, from second week of July through end of September.
Located in southern Manitoba (50.17, -97.13). Migrants at the site originate primarily from breeding range in MB and ON, but isotopic studies indicate that a portion of individuals of some species come from more western breeding range.
Captures are primarily small passerines, but all species observed are recorded.
Contribute to the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network (https://www.birdscanada.org/bird-science/canadian-migration-monitoring-network-cmmn) by conducting standardized daily migration season counts and collecting ancillary data on migration ecology for use in long-term population and biological monitoring of Canada’s bird species.
Standardized banding using 8 nets, for 6 hr from dawn onward, and recording of observation made during standard operations
Any disruption to standardized operations relevant to appropriate interpretation of analytical results is noted in a regularly-updated section of the station protocol. As of 2025, As of 2025, the only alert to users of this dataset is that effort was reduced in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid 19 restrictions.
